Requesting a New IP address from the DHCP Server
(Windows 95 or Windows 98)
To request a new IP address for a
Windows 95 or 98 computer, open the Windows IP Configuration utility.
To do this:
- Click on the "Start"
button.
- Select "Run..."
- In the "Open:"
field, type: winipcfg

- Click on the "Release
All" button.
- Click on the "Renew
All" button.
- Click on the "OK"
button.
- This will reset the IP address assigned
to this computer by the DHCP server.
NOTE: In some cases, the DHCP server will reassign the
same IP address that the computer had previously.
Requesting a New IP address from
the DHCP Server
(Windows NT or Windows 2000)
To request a new IP address for a
Windows NT computer, open the open a MSDOS window and run the IPConfig
utility. To do this:
- Click on the "Start"
button.
- Select "Run..."
- In the "Open:"
field, type: command
- Click on the "OK" button

- At the MS DOS "C:\>"
prompt, type: ipconfig /release
- Hit the "Enter" key.
NOTE: The specific IP address, and other settings
will differ from the examples shown.

- At the MS DOS "C:\>"
prompt, type: ipconfig /renew
- Hit the "Enter" key.
NOTE: The specific IP address, and other settings
will differ from the examples shown.

- This will reset the IP address assigned
to this computer by the DHCP server.
NOTE: In some cases, the DHCP server will reassign the
same IP address that the computer had previously
